С 26 декабря 1938 года по 4 декабря 1957 года носил имя Чка́лов, В 1920 году наш город стал административным центром созданной Киргизской Автономной Социалистической Советской Республики (ныне Республика Казахстан).
История города полна неожиданностей, в этих краях разворачивались события Пугачевского бунта, проживало многонациональное Оренбургское казачье войско.
С Оренбургом связаны имена многих выдающихся личностей: поэтов Т. Г. Шевченко, А. Н. Плещеева, Г. Р. Державина и Мусы Джалиля, историка Н. М. Карамзина, мультипликатора Гарри Бардина, геолога Евграфа Федорова, создателя басен И. А. Крылова, лексикографа Владимира Даля, виолончелиста Мстислава Ростроповича, видного деятеля коммунистической партии Георгия Маленкова, бывшего премьер-министра России Виктора Черномырдина и других. Здесь в летном училище получил образование Юрий Гагарин, а также Григорий Бахчиванджи, известный как первый в мире испытатель реактивных самолетов. Композитор А. А. Алябьев жил здесь в ссылке. На оренбургскую землю ступала нога и Александра Сергеевича Пушкина. Поэт побывал здесь в 1833 году, когда собирал материалы о Емельяне Пугачеве, часть из которых вошла в повесть «Капитанская дочка». Именно здесь началась история известного на весь мир промысла Оренбургского пухового платка.

Fuel and Energy Complex of the country is the Russian Federation`s economy powerhouse. The Republic of Bashkortostan - one of it`s cells. Sergey Tsivilyov the Minister of Energy of Russia noted that the region showed high level of industrial development in the region and that is why this is the perfect place to host this forum.
